Persistence

As I contribute pages to this collection, I go back and forth between thinking that the topics are too ‘high level’ and the conviction that, with the abundance of websites giving that specific hints and tips, that these ‘high level’ pages are as or more valuable.  So let me add yet one more ‘high level’ page to the mix.

So called ‘modern society’ seems to be inexorably propelling us towards more and more limited attention spans.  The over-stimulation with media of all sorts tends to take over our awareness, and to force us to filter out more and more if we are too function.  With the increasingly insidious marketing messages, the old standby ‘sell with sex’ has never been more pervasive… augmented by selling through all imaginable human appetities, it is very hard to discern what is important information and what is not.  No wonder that global warming is not on everyone’s lips and minds.

The remedy to global warming I propose on this page is both deceptively simple, and quite difficult.  This rememdy is merely ‘persistence’.  One must first become completely convinced that global warming and the host of problems it is spawning are real, occurring as I write and you read, that the problem CAN and MUST be addressed, and that your personal actions can be as powerful as you make them.

Then you must focus that resolve on an attitude of persistence.  That is, you must make it part of your daily thought process to look for ways to change wasteful habits (yours and those of others) and form new conservation-minded ones (see habit forming), to take action on both the new ones you find and those previously recognized, and to help others to do so as well, that is, to find and use your voice.
