New Alchemy Institute
Here’s one that some of the ‘old timers’ will remember. There was a group active on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the 1970s and ’80s called The New Alchemy Institute. While that group is apparently no longer active under that name, there is an online presence, and they have left their legacy of ‘sustainability research’ to the world. I personally have the fondest recollection of the dreams I had of quitting my jobs (it was a persistant, recurrent dream) and going to apprentice with them.
Their publications are now the domain of a group called The Green Center. Their website is (appropriately) understated. There is no need, after all, to put window dressing or glitz on the simple truth, the ‘real deal’.
Their brief page on The New Alchemy Institute gets right to the point sporting links to pages on Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Bioshelters, as well as Publications Online and Publications By Mail.
Do yourself, your family, community, progeny, and humanity a favor and check them out. They are an unsung national (no international) treasure.
Please do tell them we sent you. We get nothing from it, but the good feeling that they know people still remember and sing their praise.
