For those of us who remember what ‘apartheid’ was (a repressive system in South Africa of the 20th century), perhaps you will also remember what ended that system.  I’m sure it can be argued otherwise, but a decision by the institutional investment fund of the California state retirement system to divest of the stock of any company doing business with the repressive regime meant the end of apartheid.

Investing can be used both ‘for’ and ‘against’ issues, entities and agencies.  We encourage all visitors and ClimateCorps members to look seriously into adopting ‘green’ investment criteria.  Without a doubt, the products and services of companies involved in the technologies and processes which will benefit our planet in this current century of environmental crises will be in great demand as time progresses.

Here is a partial list of both individual companies, and ‘green investment’ advisors and funds.   The first item on our list, however, is a ‘meta-list’ site.  That is, the Social Investment Forum is a site discussing this important aspect of the financial world.  In particular it has a comprehensive list of the individual socially responsible mutual funds and their performance over a variety of timeframes.

Note, however, that this list cannot be construed as a recommendation for any particular company or entity mentioned here.  We are not investment advisors and only hope to provide avenues of inquiry for you.

More to come…
