Happiness

There is a movement afoot in the world to redefine not in terms of Gross National Product, but in terms of Gross National Happiness.  First of all, the concept of ‘gross national product’, or GNP, was an economic concept developed purely to estimate material output of a society or nation.  It was NOT intended to be taken for a measure of ‘success’ in any fashion.  That came later by the ‘bean counters’, the testosterone dominated, competitive, ‘dog eat dog’, materialistic view which is the core disease of our global society today.  We cannot begin to imagine how many low consumption, low production paradises existed on the planet until the roads came, and all that followed.

So throw out material production as a means of estimating the success of society, national or international.  Instead embrace the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH).  The concept was The term Gross National Happiness was first expressed by the King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck.  The website linked to above is what we call ‘a good read’.  Do take time to check it out.
